Mandatory e-invoicing in Greece: what changes for the invoices you receive
In short
E-invoicing for business-to-business (B2B) transactions is already mandatory for large businesses and extends to all others from 2 November 2026, with a transition period until 31 January 2027. For those receiving invoices, accepting e-invoices has been mandatory since 2 March 2026. More and more documents will appear in myDATA, but not all of them: retail receipts and documents from abroad stay outside.
The deadlines, after the extension
AADE moved the start of the second period from 1 October to 2 November 2026, with decisions A.1197/2026 and A.1198/2026 (Government Gazette B 5905/30.09.2026). The timeline today:
- Businesses with gross revenue above €1,000,000 (tax year 2023): e-invoicing mandatory since 2 March 2026.
- All other businesses, with revenue up to €1,000,000: start on 2 November 2026.
- 2 November 2026 to 31 January 2027: transition period, during which you can keep using your current way of issuing invoices alongside.
- From 1 February 2027: invoices are issued exclusively electronically, through a provider or AADE's apps.
- By 12 November 2026: file the declaration of commencement of electronic issuance to use the transition period.
Who it applies to and what's excluded
The obligation covers invoices between Greek businesses (B2B) and to the public sector (B2G). It doesn't cover:
- Retail receipts to consumers (B2C).
- Transactions with businesses abroad, inside or outside the EU.
How to issue an e-invoice
- Through a certified e-invoicing provider, usually together with your business software.
- Through AADE's free apps, timologio and myDATAapp, if you issue few invoices. See how timologio differs from e-timologio.gr.
What changes for the invoices you receive
Most guides talk about issuing. But every business is also a recipient: since 2 March 2026, accepting e-invoices is mandatory for B2B transactions within Greece. Your suppliers' e-invoices are transmitted to myDATA, and your accountant sees them too.
That doesn't mean all your expenses will now be in myDATA. Left outside:
- Retail receipts: fuel, supermarkets, restaurants, small purchases.
- Documents from foreign suppliers, such as software subscriptions, advertising or hosting.
- Until 31 January 2027, invoices from smaller suppliers using the transition period.
- Anything the issuer didn't transmit correctly.
The penalties
According to circular E.2004/2026, an invoice that should have been issued electronically and wasn't is treated as not issued. For transactions with VAT, the penalty for a first violation is 50% of the transaction's VAT, with a minimum of €250 for single-entry and €500 for double-entry books, and it rises for repeat violations.
Every document in one place, next to myDATA
E-invoicing brings most invoices into myDATA, but the business and its accountant still need the full picture. E-timologio.gr gives it to them:
- Connected to myDATA: every document is matched automatically with what has been transmitted, so you see immediately what's missing.
- Whatever stays outside myDATA arrives with a forwarded email or a phone photo. Date, amounts, tax ID and line items are extracted automatically.
- Monthly VAT calculation in real time, from your myDATA data.
- Your accountant sees the same archive, without emails back and forth. See how it works for the accounting office.
